First of the post-Alpine AZDEN period with the L-500, the L-580 is the last of the L-550 series and the last Luxman amp using a Heat-Pipe (and probably the last manufacturer using it at all).
And like the previous L-570 and its L-570X's & L-570Z's versions, the 580 outputs music in pure Class A only.
Differences lie in the looks and absence of the processor loop. Looks mostly : the L-580 is essentially a visually redesigned L-570X's.
The transformer, Heat-Pipe and "ultimate attenuator" are the same but the power-supply was however upped with a stronger 340VA rating so as to allow linearily doubling the output for each speaker resistance.
The circuit is all-DC pure complementary with Duo-ß and Star earthing circuits and, also in are, naturally, a Line-Phase sensor, NF tilt tone control (like a C-1000 or L-308), non-resonant 5-point FRP base, gold-plated terminals & relays, styrol "custom" caps and all one can expect from a "limited edition" Lux amplifier.
There was another "L-580" earlier in Luxman's lineup : an export version of the L-58A with added LED meters (much like an M-120A).
This was however USA-only but two of those 120V units were retrofitted by Lux USA with 220V transformers at the request of Luxman EU (Lux is Luxman is complexman) so there are/were two in Europe as well.
A real L-580 here.
