Later, smaller attempt at a variant of a different NS-1000 with some ingredients retained and others, many others, dropped.
The second key element was however kept in : a Beryllium high driver.
After the bigger, taller, NS-890 (july 1978) which had the same high+mid Beryllium tandem plus an added mid dome (how much mids can you take ?) and a different 30cm bass, Yamaha made a smaller, cheaper, sibling to the NS-1000 by way of the NS-890 crossing.
Nearly the same Beryllium tweeter, nearly the same non-Beryllium cone of the NS-890 and another slightly different 30cm bass made the briefly available NS-590.
For a targeted price of half a pair of NS-1000, Yamaha therefore had to make some more savings : lighter enclosure, simplified filter and, of course, no Beryllium thunderdome.
Unlike the NS-690 and its many successive versions, neither variants, big or small, NS-890 or NS-590, sold well.
But the NS-1000 sold so well that it was and still is very difficult to compare - low-end, high-end or variant.
