Sony TAC ESPRIT cabs

Before I purge the HDs of all things TVK, I might as well put this online : the only vaguely proper images of the TAC-90 and TAC-91 cabinets Sony didn't make.

Indeed, these images come from a june 1982 FM Fan magazine (JP) as, apart from a small half-thumbnail printed on the back of the TA-E901 JP catalog, Sony never advertised for those cabinets nor published anything about them... despite the fact that all ESPRIT components were designed (visually) with said TAC planned - that is the only reason the 900s have detachable rack ears (unlike the original 86s and 88s), a plan which goes back to the TC-K88 in mid 1978 - Sony is Sony is Sony.

Made for the TA-N900, SE-P900 and TA-D900

Made for the TA-E900, E901 and N901.

No images ever found of them but I've seen two for real : a variant of the TAC-91 mainly meant for the TA-E901 and TA-N901, where the slab of SBMC is replaced by a black plastic deep grille, like the top of a Lux CL-40 enclosure. Very pretty and... 99,5% Inivisibilia.

The TA-N902 never had an enclosure designed because it came too late in the production, four years after the TAC plans, and oozes too much heat anyway.

It seems the bulk of the ESPRIT TAC production was dumped in the USA, c. 1982 - the place where Sony always sold the least of its high-end production and the smallest amount of ESPRIT components - Sony is Sony is Sony.

One can only dream to own all ESPRIT components, and those elusive TAC components if only for their wonderful styling.

I can just sit and look at my ESPRIT's and enjoy it too :)

Thanks for posting Axel!

I have 4 of the TAC cabinets in my collection...

3 x TAC90 and 1 x TAC91.

They are all brand new boxed and even have instructions and a Japanese price label!

I will take some photos if you are interested?

Images welcome, of course !
I'll add along the way some of a TAC-92 which recently sold in Japan with a TA-N901.

Here it is, the ultra-mega-x-rare TAC-92, from a recent Yahoo JP auction.

The vertical separations parallel to the front are angled at about 25/30° forward so as to reflect ambient light and avoid the pitch-black effect
which happens when the separations remain simply vertical.
Very clever. Quite Sony.

That looks just stunning Axel!

Love the rosewood combined with the black anodised front. gives a very classy result without being posh.

I will be selling a pair of mint boxed TAN900 power amps. As new. With a pair of new old stock TAC90 cabinets.

I have never seen a pair of TAN 900 with cabinets for sale before.

I wonder what they are worth ?
