CDP-X5000

Postby rulocal » Tue Oct 19, 2010 5:41 pm

I have one of these landing in the next few days. :D

Such an illogical purchase, particularly given the rarity of replacement lasers, but I care not. I have wanted one for years and now I will have one.

Job done!

I don't have one but still want one, despite my R1 combo.
There is something smart and... sort of "educated" about the 5000 & 3000 lineups.

Sony in France devised stupidly high prices for them back then and that's why they didn't sell as well as they should have - and did in Japan.

Spare lasers should still be findable, though, maybe not cheap but that's securing ten to fifteen years of (musical) life !

Thanks for your reply.

Agreed, this purchase is 80% aesthetic. I am on the lookout for replacement lasers, but my not speaking Japanese is hindering my search.

Obviously a very nice player, but despite the 'looks' doesn't really tickle my imagination as do the older 'built to last' 7-series and R-series. Just a matter of taste I guess.

Do post some pictures though!

The X5000 arrived and I am chuffed to bits. I am planning to use it for transport duties but am in no hurry as it sounds pretty damn good on it's own.

I wanted one of these too! :)

In the end I bought a Dentec modified CEC TL-2X...they must have copied the Sony!

Very nice machine...please tell us what you think. Are there any manuals or technical specs?

Thanks for your comments. I will report back later with some additional comments on the sonics when I have had time to have an extended listen. The service manual is downloadable here.

The only thing is I am paranoid about the laser, so if any of you see any KSS-274As for sale please let me know!

hi,
I bought one used, was fine at first, but after a few days there are some quirks.
1) Some clicking sounds when play CDs on track 1. Other tracks are fine.
2) Some of the buttons doesn't work as it should ie. when press stop it doesn't stop, when press play it doesn't play (but have to press pause twice!).
Nevertheless a georgeous player and worth it anyway.
Producing fine sound. I'm using it as a transport sending coax spdif to bel canto dac3.
Any suggestions on how can i fix it?
