Transitional series of integrated amplifiers, a bit like the contemporary Sony TA-F80.
The smaller SU-8077 sprung from the well-remembered SU-8080 but saw many higher versions which, as often, remained Japan-only possibilities.
Only one transformer, no shielding, two heatsinks, no pre/main separation possible, a simplified phono MM and MC cartridge section. But, in exchange, in came an FL display ! And gold-plated phono input plugs.
Circuit-wise : Full DC structure, 100Khz power bandwidth with a concentrated power block that holds the supply section and caps/heatsinks/transistors, a floating coil power transformer (ie. polyester resin-cast), switches that are right next to the input/output terminals to avoid long signal paths, a volume control with metal film resistors.
And said Fluorescent Peak Meter Display.
The 8077 belongs to that generation when manufacturers started to display computer 3D charts to show on three axis distortion, power and frequency - visible technology, very much like the FL meter.
As a side note : as often, these designs look a bit blunt as such.
But if you put a silver SU-8080 or an SU-8077 in a wooden enclosure, it all of a sudden becomes quite classy ! I guess in '78 the times already called for no wood...
