Technics SL-01

1 9 7 6 1976
1 9 7 7 1977

Very rare iteration of the Technics line(s) of abundantly bestselling turntables

This one seems like an equivalent to the contemporary (and magnificent) Pioneer PL-1800 : a very well dressed up mid-end LP spinner, the Pioneer being more high-end and more beautiful.

Good ingredients : EPA-100-derived tonearm (if distantly) and Technics' sturdy DD motor, plus a solid name to boot which sounds like PX-1 , PL-L1 or... SE-A1 !

Surprising ingredient : the start/stop pad is made of polished wood !

At 80,000¥, however, this seems to have been mostly for the design-oriented customers - and for a very short time.

The image here comes from a one-off and mushy printed ad in a Stereo Sound issue - the finally found original japanese catalog is awaiting scanning.
