Technics RS-646DS

Technics D46

1 9 7 6 1976
1 9 7 8 1978

Rare portable pro-sumer cassette recorder.

Uher ruled on the professional side, Sony elsewhere with Technics, Teac and JVC taking whatever little space was left. And when Sony unveiled the first TC-D5 in '78... there was no one else left.

The RS-646DS is the smaller sibling to the big RS-686DS ; no gadget but not exactly hi-fi with a frequency response stopping at 14Khz...

Mind you, the 686 didn't much better and, as we all know, most of the daily sounds rarely go over 12Khz and radio broadcasts stop at 15Khz !
