THE big Sony open-reel of the early 70s and a QUADRADIAL deck in the first place that was to be found more often in recording studios than within audiophile's pads :
three motors, closed-loop dual-capstan, servo-control, feather-touch transport pads, plug-in headstack, diecast tape guide and head-block mounting frame, 120Khz recording bias.

Sold in Japan as a TC-9040, for a considerable 320,000¥ (1972).

Also available in the USA as a 2 Track TC-850 (aka TC-9000 and later TC-9000F-2 in Japan), the latter giving way to the TC-880-2 masterpiece.
