Sony PS-5550

1 9 7 4 1974
1 9 7 6 1976

A fairly rare mid-fi export-only belt-driven 'table : no masterpiece, just plain everyday gear. With very distinguished styling.

The stock tonearm is supported by a motor of its own for auto-return, a function carried through opto-sensing, to avoid mechanical linkage. That arm was also delivered on some slightly upper-end 'tables.

The diecast aluminium base is decoupled from the wood case for (basic) isolation.
No match for a PS-6750 or PS-X7 - very distinguished styling is the word.

"A valuable record collection deserves the delicate treatment provided by the PS-5550, and music lovers will be pleased to find that the tonearm is capable of bringing out the inherent fullness and strength found in today's wide dynamic range recordings."
