Typically early 1990s design centered on a typically early 1980s drive : the Philips CDM1 Mk2 !

The PCD is the integrated CD player version. It uses said CDM1 Mk2 drive within a custom drawer, and a pair of Burr Brown PCM58P converters for typically early 1990s 18bit sound.
Outputs are single-ended or XLR balanced for analogue and 75 Ohm coaxial for digital.

The other main ICs are an NPC SM5813APT (8x digital filter), a Yamaha YM3623B and fast AD845 Analog Devices op'amps for the analogue outputs. The PCD works sans noise-shaping.

Physical construction is all metal with big aluminium slabs making the frame, rubbery buttons and a too big logo which nearly ruins the discreetely attractive proportions of the PCD's uncommon shape.

There are two versions of the PCD :
the original had a common power trafo which wasn't silent enough (as used in the PDP converter), later exchanged for a big toroidal.
I don't know if that upgrade was offered on the PDP.

The coaxial output was also finetuned along the way with a high-frequency filter and mostly its output level boosted to 5V (max.) so that the connected converter would be sure to very clearly see the 0s and 1s and therefore avoid useless interoplation moves. Analogue outputs are very low at 1 Ohm impedance.

The PCT is the drive-only version of the PCD ; outputs are either 75 Ohm coaxial or balanced AES/EBU on XLR.

MRC 100 is the japanese name of the PCD : here.

This combo won many an award and still makes for a respected drive - Philips CDM oblige.
