Nicely designed turntable.

The PL-51A was a PL-1200A in Japan, both being slightly updated 1974 versions of the 1972 PL-51 / PL-1200 - old salad.

The PL-51A is fitted with an ultra-slow running direct-drive brushless DC servo motor.

The yummy looking tonearm was designed to cope with lightweight cartridges (ie. Shure V15) and exotic CD-4 / Quad / Surround / SQ records which in 1972 still were new salad - even if one which fairly few actually tasted.

With big insulators coupled to a two-density base, LSC output cables (Low Stray Capacity) for said sensitive CD4 discs in need of 40Khz bandwidth, pitch controls with stroboscope up to plus or minus two percent and a dynamically balanced 31cm diecast aluminium alloy platter, one was ready to rock the Dark Side of the Moon, the other one too and Quadrophenia alltogether - and all this made for a very good salad.
