A very obscure brand, Phonocord was based in Lahr (Gerätewerk Lahr GmbH, 763 Lahr, Schwarzwald), right where Thorens was between 1966 and 1990.
It is reasonable to see Phonocord operated by Thorens as an attempt at making less expensive and trendy components : those bearing the Thorens name never were too successful...
There were other units sporting the same design and Thorens TD-170 or TD-170mkII turntable : 3020K quadro, 3050K and 3025K quadro.
Advertised within bubbly plaster settings (lower end) or more neutral backs, like here for the higher-end.
The bigger models had the "formant" function that was also found on the contemporary Görler luxurious compacts. In-house speakers were available as well : 3020B, 3050B and 3060B, respectively 2, 3 and 4-way.
The proton 3055K quadro was available in a walnut enclosure (!), eggshell white (as shown here), grey-ish metallic and anthracite.
The whereabouts of the short-lived Phonocord (ad)venture seem to have completely vanished - anybody ?
