When every brand had its high-end or low-end semi-mirror brand -
Sony had Wega and Aiwa,
Aiwa had Excelia,
Braun had ADS,
Hitachi had Lo-D,
Matsushita had Panasonic,
Panasonic had Technics,
JC Penney had MCS,
Sanyo had OTTO and Fisher,
Mitsubishi had Diatone (still has),
Toshiba had Aurex (and vice-versa),
Trio had Kenwood (and vice-versa),
Kenwood had some of Accuphase,
and LUX, as ever, stretched its reach beyond its grasp, with Luxman, Luxkit, L&G and even BIC...
Optonica was the high-end audio output for Sharp, launched in early 1975.
The RT-3838 was Optonica's lineup topper for the '78/79 season : it was a fair attempt at visual finesse with heavy formulas, was available in black (RT-3838HB) or silver (RT-3838H), weighted 10 kilos, had a cool LCD display which acted as recording programmer and alarm clock on the side.
The RT-3838 isn't a mere cassette recorder but an "electronic tape processor" !
