One of the most elusive japanese brands which however had nothing to do with either Marantz or Luxman... as far as we know !
Or maybe it had ? Like the surprising A&D (Akai & Diatone) joint lineups of the 1980s ? I doubt it.
Marlux appeared in the early 1970s and vanished after the market peak of 1977 : probably feeling there wouldn't be much room for small and barely known brands afterward...
Marketing-wise, it was a bit dangerous to bear a name that immediately reminds of two other names - and well-known ones, too.
Marlux however had a couple of successes like the MX-86 turntable which was excellent despite its very competitive price.
One amplifier (MA-6000) looks very much like a Denon OEM from Victor, and there is something of the Japan-only Denon professional reel-to-reel recorders in the capstan / rollers arrangement.
Or not - the Marlux history so far remains completely in the dark.
Monarch, another obscure japanese brand seemingly related to Marlux, had a version of Denon's PMA-700Z - and vice-versa.
Nevertheless, however, whatever notwithstanding, it seems more likely Teac to have had a hand in the Model-607 (or 607-S) : either as OEM actor or, more likely, as a parts supplier.
Anyway - the specs are impressive considering the (assumed) vintage and (unknown but probable) pricing.
And at 25kg, with auto-reverse, the Marlux Model 607 was playing leagues above the Sony TC-377 contemporary bestseller.
