Upgraded version of the 1990 PM-80a bestseller launchd after the PM-90 and PM-99SE toppers because the "80" series proved so successful, it was worth making ultimate versions... which finally sold just as easily as the originals.
Visually, the 88aSE is a PM-80 stripped from its processor loop, third tape i/o and tone controls.
Inside, specifications included, is a PM-80a :
MOS-Fet output transistors, HDAM modules for each of the three blocks (phono, pre, power), HDAM active volume circuit for the copper-isolated 4-gang attenuator, 2x 15,000µF custom-ordered to ELNA, Marantz-tagged toroidal trafo, two CCNE noise-killer in the power-suppy lines and diecast sideburns.
The real differences with the normal PM-80a are the addition of copper-plating everywhere, a 3mm aluminium top-plate, black anodizing of the heatsinks, solid aluminium knobs and a bigga toroidal trafo instead of the regular EI.
And a very worthwhile 15,000¥ price increase.
A real PM-88aSE here.
