First of a long and very successful line of amplifiers which were all higher-end versifications of it.

Powering everybody is a large EI transformer and 2x 18,000µF / 63V ELNA For Audio caps. Regulated feeds separately power the EQ, indication LEDs, voltage amp and output stage. A CCNE noise-killer circuit is inserted in the dedicated output stage power-supply.

The output stage uses Sanken Darlington packs with two pairs of copper-clad p-p of 2SA1265 / 2SC3182 each with a 100W Pc. The Class A mode is switched with an opto-coupler and transistor which rise bias.

The phono stage is a differential FET input with ahigh-quality op'amp for the MC gain ; the same op'amp is used for the tone controls ; relays are used to switch inputs and the AC cord is OFC-wired.

Very low distortion swift rise time, excellent RIAA accuracy but a none-too-flat response in Class A/B which slightly (slighty !) favors the midband.
The later upgraded models (PM-80a first) corrected that and added more bass oomph, better highs and tighter stereo scenery through componentry upgrades and HDAM modules and more attention paid to the volume attenuator.

A real PM-80 here and in black here.
