" At Altec Lansing we've been building quality loudspeaker systems for over forty years. And during that time we've introduced quite a number of new speaker design techniques to the audio industry.

The latest example of this design philosophy - the new Model 14.
Put very simply, the Model 14 is a totally unique speaker that we believe has a higher level of performance than anything now on the market. Performance that was only achievable with the development of a whole new family of speaker components. Components like our new MANTARAY constant directivity horn. The MANTARAY's design produces sound in a continuous wedge of energy without regard to frequency. Beaming is essentially eliminated.

Complementing the 14's consistent dispersion is a highly-efficient compression driver that features our innovative TANGERINE radial phase plug. Designed to virtually eliminate the problem of high-frequency loss found in conventional phase plugs, the new plug delivers smooth response to beyond 20Khz.

For added versatility the Model 14 is equipped with a dual-band equalizer that allows separate adjustment of the mid and high frequencies. The result is a system that combines the best qualities of both two and three-way speaker systems.

Also incorporated in the 14 is our new Automatic Power Control. This power overload protection device literally keeps track of the power delivered to the system and corrects overloads automatically. Whenever input power exceeds safe limits, a warning light goes on and the power is automatically reduced.

Surrounding the acoustic components and electronics is an optimally-tuned, vented enclosure that delivers a perfect balance of low-frequency response and extremely-high sensitivity. In fact, the 14 is so efficient that it can deliver 95dB SPL at four feet with only 1 watt of input power.

By now you may have come to the conclusion that a speaker with the performance and features of the 14 must cost a small fortune. It doesn't. In fact when you consider the additional features like a real-walnut veneer finish (even on the back), a 12-inch bass driver with die-cast aluminum frame and Altec Lansing's full five-year warranty, we think that you'll agree that the Model 14 just may be the best speaker value on the market today.
