JVC P-L10
(1981 - 1984+)

At the center of the P-L10 were the Gm Processors: transforming voltage into current to amplify it and converting it into voltage again. This engineering slant should sound familiar to Sony heads :-) Gm Processors were here used where it counts most -the volume attenuator- and where it counted most then: in the phono stage. The original A-X9 amplifier is the one that first sported this circuit.

At a time when competitors were trying semi-scifi designs (ie. Kenwood L-08 or Pioneer Z1), Victor crafted magnificent enclosures made of real rosewood trims and 21 lacquering steps. The P-L10 was a high-end preamplifier costing 250,000¥ - it was very successful in Japan.

The images for this post come from both 1981 original japanese and north-american L10 catalogs.
