Kyocera A-710
(1985 - 1988 ?)

The smaller one - integrated amp. This image comes from a Stereo Sound "Best Product" award page - sorry for the blurry black&white...

The article mentions an "A-910" bigger version of this integrated amplifier but evidence of its actual production remains to be found. [now found : here !]

The two color images below are the courtesy of Zeljko himself :) Along a different input/rec out structure, two LEDs have changed places, so there probably was some design changes between the Stereo Sound sample and the production units... The A-910 seems to have the features of both A-710 versions (plus the beefier guts) but to have been a US-only version.

Costing 189,000¥ in 1985, Kyocera sadly didn't sell many but this still represents one of the few proper design slants ever applied to an entire lineup. I want one.

Built like all first generation Kyocera on a composite compound that efficiently suppresses most of the vibrations. It is, however, like all such compounds (Sony's SBMC, Technics' BMC and others) rather fragile when it comes to sudden precise shocks and easily breaks in pieces. It is nevertheless very efficient and quite immune to little scratches.
