Thorens
TD 520
Thorens TD 520S
Thorens TD 521
(1985 -1999)
Large
Thorens masterpiece based on the earlier TD
320 but adapted for the use of long tonearms, originally
Thorens' own TP90L. A bestseller in Japan, often flanked with one
of the Japan-only SME 3012 variants.
Both versions have a stroboscope and can spin at 78rpm.
The model TD 520S has a heavier 9kg
platter made of brass, an acryl tonearm base, reinforced motor and
chassis feathering and was fitted stock with an SME
312 - that's the Professional version. The TD
521 is a TD 520S without tonearm
or automatic end stop.
LP replay on such a luxurious machine borders on the sublime, really.
But then, there also are other near-perfect record players : Sony,
Yamaha,
Luxman,
Micro-Seiki, Technics,
Denon
or Kenwood
!
