Thorens TD 2001
(1989 - 1999)

Last bestseller for that major brand. The 2001 got awards all over the world and still probably remains the best performance/price ratio for all Thorens turntables. It wasn't anything completely new but more of the ultimate refinement of an almost magic formula. Ultimate has two meanings here: if 1999 hadn't been THE END for Thorens, the TD 2001 would probably still be available! Unfortunately, it isn't.
Available later on without tonearm for the ubiquitous SME to take place (TD 2001BC).
I strongly disagree wth the black color of this otherwise superb turntable (long-time Thorens user here - I'm allowed to cringe!), if I were to go back to belt-driven decks, I'd probably go for this one... in japanese robe.
