Lenco L85
(c. 1973 - 1977)
Swiss-made and successful - perhaps finally even more so than the ever overshadowing Thorens who seems to go from one limbo to another since the mid 1990s.
After having sold 1,000,000 turntables, whether under its own name or under the Goldring, Bogen, Grundig, Barthe or Benjamin names, Lenco is still with us, even producing the old L78 bestseller in digital fashion with an USB2 interface !
The L85 however isn't the traditional idler-drive Lenco but a high-end belt-driven deck. Powered by a 16-pole asynchronous motor, two electronically regulated pitch controls are available alongwith an electronic auto-lift/stop feature.
The chassis is suspended on four adjustable viscous/springs pillars and a beautiful stroboscope is discreetely included behind the platter's rim.
The L85 could be delivered in satin white, rosewood or walnut enclosures or as a drive. Discrete, good, classy and ready for many upgrade mods.
