Logic dm 101
(1981 - ?)

A rare british vinyl spinner, the dm 101 bears the same name as an old Denon tube integrated. The resemblance stops there :)

Drive
Belt driven from a synchronous motor via a precision ground flat section belt. Speed change between 33 1/3 and 45rpm being effected by moving the belt manually to a different pulley diameter. The pulley design is such that the belt tension is identical on both speeds.

Platter
Precision machined in two piece form from die cast aluminium, the main platter has a high inertia value. The sub-platter houses the hardened stainless steel bearing spindle, and is driven on its periphery by the belt. The main platter locates on a register on the sub-platter and a thin felt mat is bonded to the main platter.

Motor
The 24 pole synchronous motor is mounted directly to the plinth on a 5mm steel plate. The aluminium drive pulley is available in two sizes to accommodate either 50 Hz or 60 Hz mains supply.

Bearing
A die cast aluminium housing supports two plain bushes together with a hardened steel thrust pad, ground and diamond lapped. Thrust is taken by a steel ball concentrically located in the end of the ground and diamond lapped spindle. Bearing assemblies are individually matched to ensure correct clearance, resulting in extremely good rumble figures.

Chassis
Manufactured in solid aluminium 8 mm. thick, the chassis provides a very rigid support between the arm mounting and the platter. The bearing housing and the arm are bolted directly to the chassis. The arm mounting facilities offered on the standard chassis enable the majority of better quality arms to be used.

Suspension
The chassis/platter assembly is suspended from the plinth on a three point system using two tension springs at each point. This system accommodates arms of varying weights without changes to spring specifications, and offers excellent resistance to acoustic feedback. Chassis levelling is performed from above by means of three simple screw adjustments.

Plinth
The plinth is of solid construction, manufactured in a high density fibre board. The weight of the plinth combined with the absorption qualities of the rubber feet contribute significantly to the turntable's resistance to acoustic feedback. Switch on/off type with a rectangular red illuminated button ; the illumination bulbs act as fuses for the mains supply to the motor.

Dust Cover
The smoked acrylic dust cover is mounted on spring loaded hinges, has plastic finger lifts, and is detachable. The performance of the turntable is unimpaired with the lid in the open or closed position."

      Graham says more :
"Logic made 3 turntable models, the electronic speed-change
Tempo, both an electronic and manual speed change dm 101 and a model called the Gemini which I can find nothing about. They also made some tonearms that were well respected in their day."
