Probably
audio's best bestselling component: from the original SL-1200 to
the more recent gold-plated Limited Edition of the mkV, there are
probably more SL-1200 around the world than Denon's DL-103.
Preferred
by some to self-assumed audiophile turntables, the 1200mkII does
boast an exremely sturdy motor and (in 1977) a tonearm with one
of the lowest friction ratios. Better yet: both of these features
are still valid... today!
The EPA-120 tonearm included in the
SL-1200mkII would see many later (separate) versions enhancing the
original EPA-100
good design with exotic materials and slight mechanical upgrades.
If the natural use for the 1200mkII has become strictly DJ'ing,
the 1200mkII still is quite valid as a primary turntable for music
listening.
The
1200 is still available from Panasonic in several versions, including
the original MK2
!
