Technics
SL-1100A
(1971 - 1976)
Overshadowed
by the later SL-1200 and its numerous versions, the 1100A was the
original "integrated" sibling to the original SP-10 and
its numerous versions. It pales in comparison, sure, but the arm
already had one of the lowest friction ratio - a staple of the Technics
tonearms.
The
1100A remains as a little classic in hifi design, too. As all high-end
Technics TTs, the base is a massive aluminium diecast piece, feet
included. There seems to have been 2 versions (1100
and 1100A) with differences in the motor
type (?).
The optional SH-11B base shown here
gave the 1100A an even stronger appearance but is unfortunately
very rare.
A
cool feature of th 70s, the stroboscope, was however still optional
as well but fortunately not rare at all.
The
pre-drilled-for-SMEs wood arm board was the SH-11P3W
; ordered as such, armless, the 1100(A) was an SL-110.
The SL-1100A with an SME tonearm is good "classic" winner.
