Technics
SB-7000A
Technics SB-7000
(late 1976 - 1979)
To
some a truly excellent loudspeaker, to others a lame and sluggish
thing. I don't know for I have never heard one...
Technics used variations of the SB-7000, SB-7070 and
the pricier SB-8000 to accompany its demos in the late 1970s
: have someone perform live, record through an RS-1500US
or RS-1800,
then replay through the SB loudspeakers... Must have been at
least good enough to sustain the comparison ! Phase chaaracteristics
seem very good and so do the rest of the specs. Even the level controls
for the high and mid drivers function as Q pots : altering the resonance
sharpness rather than regular level pots !
Also, the SB-7000 had the "studio professional" look written
all over itself - a big plus in 1977 ;-)
Japan
seems to have seen only the SB-7000 ; the SB-7000A was perhaps
export-only - I don't know of any differences between these two
"versions"... The specs and graphs shown here are all
for the SB-7000A.
Also known in Japan as "Technics 7",
and available there in white (with flashy green covers - SB-7000W)
or with real wood veneer sides (SB-7000MP).
