Sony
TTS-6000
(october 1977 - 1979)
Smaller
version of the TTS-8000
but "younger" by more than a year so... the TTS-6000
is a lighter albeit upgraded version of the TTS-8000
: the X-Tal Lock and Magnedisc magnetic stripe systems are
there but not the possibility to alter the pitch with controls.
Mainly
: the signal-to-noise is improved by 3dB.
However, the resistance to load characteristics are slightly less
impressive.
Bar
the front flap/lid for the pitch/X-Tal controls and the reversed
engraving on the platter's rim, the rest is the same : Sony's staple
BSL (brushless & slotless) motor, the Quartz-locked direct-drive
and electronic braking.
The
frame of the 6000 itself is like that of the 8000 : made of non-resonant
SBMC compound.
Stock on the TTS-8000, the OL-2KA
oil-filled mat was only optional on the TTS-6000
and could be ordered for 130¥.
Made
to fit in the Sony TB-2000 or TB-1000
bases for a top notch and low-Q LP replay system. Add in a PUA-7,
PUA-1600L
or even PUA-9
and the lil' Rega (however cute) can go take a break.
The
TTS-6000 was not exported outside Japan, not even like the few samples
of the TTS-8000 that subrepticiously made it to the UK.
