ECA-80
ECR-880
ECR-800
(1976 - 1980)
High-end
and x-rare combo of condenser headphones: the ECR-880
is the headset, the ECA-80 is the amplifier.
High-end because the cabless' very colours have been optimized as
the engineeres found the output sound was changing accordingly -
can't make more esoteric that that !
The
ECR headset uses a 2µ thick high-polymer
film (HPM) arranged in non-symmetrical pentagon shape for less resonance
and better frequency response. The 6-core cable is made of pure
copper with a stabilized impedance between the six cores.
The ECA, among other
features, has 175µ
copper patterns on its printed circuit boards, mercury contacts
and silver mica caps - and then some.
At
75,000¥, the ECA-80/ECR-880 wasn't that expensive - makes me
really wonder why it is such an x-rare rarity.

You may see a real ECR-800
here and its ECR-400
smaller sibling here. There are no differences between the ECR-880
and ECR-800 but for the 800 which could be purchased separately
while the 880 was the one delivered with the ECA-80.
