Sony DAS-R10
(1992 - 1996+)

Ultra-ultra-ultra rare.
Received not only a Coty award but the Golden Sound distinction for 1993 ! Quite a few other awards, too, but as for many other superlative Sony units... nobody knows about it. Or nobody is willing to.

The DAS-R10 digital-to-analogue audio converter took on a very new idea which was like bending the rules a little bit : change the curve and slope of the LPF filter to suit one's needs and/or preferences ! We're far from the "straight wire with gain" motto :) But it seems all audiophiles who used the same filter in either the SCD-1 , CDP-X5000 or MDS-JA50ES are perfectly happy with that bended rule. Just like audiophiles were happy with mild tone controls in the 1970s.

Sony's original Twin Link System was retained, albeit in an "S" upgraded version.

Production run is anybody's guess - probably no more than 100.

At 2,000,000 with the CDP-R10, Sony made these as showpieces available on order only. The CDP and DAS-R10 thus did not put to oblivion the previous CDP-R1a and DAS-R1a and both combos remained available together for a couple of years.

This a temporary page, until I have the entire technical content translated from japanese to english. Stay tuned.
