TA-F808ES
TA-F707ES
(1993
- 1994)
The
last integrated amplifier of the "classic" ES line and
a discrete update of the previous TA-F770ES
and TA-F870ES.
The main update consists of the addition of MOS-FET transistors
in the driver stages, whereas the previous 770/870 only sported
these in the power stages. Also, better componentry here and there.
The 808 has the same badge -litterally- glued -litterally- as was
glued on the 870. The 808 is a japanese TA-F555ESJ
and the 707 a japanese TA-F333ESJ.
I believe the original versions to have been deprived of the pre-out
and the Control S plugs [?] but, given Sony's
complex market-related naming and even lettering schemes, this
remains to be confirmed :-) And don't ask me why the 808 has a badge
and the 707 doesn't - I don't know! The 870ES and 770ES normally
were a 555ESA
and 333ESA
respectively.
Anyway, very healthy integrated amps: true powerhouses, able
to output lots of curent to feed just about any loudspeaker available.
The top cover of the 808 is made of the same G-Base
material than its base, to dampen vibrations even further. Slightly
reminiscent of the venerable TA-8650
V-FET integrated, too. In Japan, said G-Base
was available in Japan for the previous F555ESA
(aka TA-F870ES) as an optional accessory.
The
production models have 7 screws holding that G-Base cover to the
normal one below. Apart from all metal/gold-plated speaker connectors,
the top-cover and higher feet of the 808, I'm not aware of "real"
differences between the 707 and 808 ; they share the same service
manual, too.
