TA-F333ES
Sony
TA-F444ESII
(1985 - 1986)
Released after the TA-F555ESII and therefore being already "upgraded" in its first version - therefore not seeing a "II" version. In some markets (seemingly Australia and the US), the F333ES was a TA-F444ESII.
As the 555ESII (1984), and unlike the original F555ES (1983), the chassis ic copper-plated from top to bottom, select parts are used throughout and ACT (Audio Current Transfer) is still here, with added high Gm FETs and LC-OFC wiring.
Legato Linear is also used (linear gain volume control instead of voltage divider type) to minimize low-level distortion with DC-Servo eq and flat amp circuits, high-speed rectifying diodes and high-current caps.
Even if Sony's staple Spontaneous Twin Drive and Gibraltar chassis weren't there yet (they would by the next gen' : TA-FxxxESX, 1986), the conveniences of the future were already at hand with video switching and dubbing : the chassis image shows the audio inputs (right) and a/v inputs (center, video above, audio below).
The TAC-125 wood sideburn were a Japan-only option.
The F333ES really is a less powerful F555ESII as all the features, specifications and technology inside are identical : the latter is only 1,8kg heavier with 2x 120W (8Ohm, 20Hz...20kHz) whereas the the F333ES/F444ESII will deafen your neighbours (and you) with only 2x 100W (8Ohm, 20Hz...20kHz). Both have 1.2dB of dynamic headroom, 2Hz...200kHz frequency response and 10Hz...100kHz power bandwidth.
As outlined here by its very designers, the look of the F333ES is a bit conservative (make that deceptive) but it does push music through even better than the original F555ES.
Sony Japan advertised the F333ES as the follower of the 1972 TA-1150 bestseller on 2-page ads - looking to the old to sell the new is indeed... conservative :) |
