Sony CDP-X77ES
(1990)

Refining the formula - the excellent formula!

Same bomb-proof quality as the previous CDP-X7ESD, but with different DACs - the X77ES mainly is a "PULSE" version of the X-7ESD. Like all of Sony's "7" series, the X77ES became a best-seller, too.

The drive section is arguably one of the best ever (whatever the "7" series player considered), but the DAC section of the X77ES shows a little of its age - the CDP-X777ES follower came as an clear improvement in almost all areas but this was already quite good.
