CDP-X777ES

Above: my own two units :)
Below: some details...

The player itself is enclosed in a copper-plated structure, leaving the front and attendant buttons/displays outside. The front-plate itself is organized alike with three parts/layers forming it! The sides of player are done, again, like that. If you wondered where the 17kg came from...

The underside holds the analog board (top), the mech assy' and PS regulation (center) and PS section (bottom).

The motorized headphones/variable out can be seen next to the front sub-plate. The two potted transformers benefit from a doubled-up shielding copper plate.

Copper busses, lil' pads of copper on critical components etc

What is fascinating is that all this is held within a 12cm regular height.
All this stands on ceramic powder-loaded feet.

The particle board and steel making the "wood-sides" ; each has 5 strips of hardened tissue plus an horizontal one to make smooth contact with the top cover.

The top cover is a 3mm piece of aluminium, with felt :-)

The massive aluminium bar that sits in front of the (metal) tray makes contact with a thin piece of rubber circling the opening and thus preventing air-borne vibrations from entering the player (well, dust at least...)

The front-plate: 4mm aluminium with a real GLASS display!

The two poles aren't plastic (kiddin'??) but... copper-plated metal and are only present to properly guide the display and analog/digital buttons through the sub-plate and attendant function board. Plastic would've been enough, sure...

Said function board is held by NINETEEN screws to the middle plate. Six or seven screws would've been largely enough but I guess that's what one may call luxury :-)

I could post 100 images like these... This was no studio gear or 5k$ audiophilia stuff - just the lineup topper of a huge consumer brand.
