Pioneer
RT-707
Pioneer RT-701
(1977
- 1981+)
Slightly overdone for home-audio use but gorgeously overdone indeed.
At least we weren't taken in for suckers when buying audio gear.
Introduced at the time cassettes
had already replaced reels as the most popular recording format,
the 707 was however far more successful at being a small reel-to-reel
than ELCASETs
were at trying to bridge gaps.
The
RT-707 was available with a (not very
good looking) woodcase ; the RT-701
version didn't have auto-reverse, nor the memory-repeat function,
output level pots, DIN in/out connector or record safety switches.
The RT-909 brought
things to a bigger level and for those really serious about home-recording,
the RT-2022
and RT-2044
were the ones to get. The 707 and 909 are cute, very cute, but however
not really part of the Pantheon of sound-wise excellent recorders...
Left:
from an october 1977 ad, atop a CT-F8080, SPEC-1 and SPEC-2.
Below:
atop
a TX-9500II
and SG-9500, both rack-mounted with the help of a JA-R101 rack adaptor
and with a SPEC-1 preamp and SPEC-4 powerhouse thrown in for good
measure, all this packed in a JA-R2S rack.
