Super
Loudspeaker test
1977
Here
are excerpts from a 1977 Stereo Sound
gigantic loudspeaker test.
Click the thumbnails below and the results open in pop-ups so you
can put two loudspeakers side by side and easily compare the results
- ain't I thoughtful ?
I
have made a selection of the units tested to avoid this taking
fifty pages ; however, in time, I will add a few more.
Among
the monitoring components used for the test were a Yamaha CA-2000,
Luxman SQ-38FD
II, PD-121,
5C50 and 5M20, Ortofon MC20, Audiocraft AC-300C, Victor TT-101
and UA-7045, Yamaha C-2 and Pioneer M-25
; also a Mark Levinson preamplifier. The measuring rigs were exclusively
from Bruel & Kjaër.
Graphs
show, from top to bottom :
- third octave response with a greyed-out zone corresponding to
room resonances up to 200Hz,
- horizontal dispersion,
- vertical dispersion,
- impedance curve,
- SPL for 1W at 1m.
The
overall results show that the most linear loudspeakers aren't necessarily...
the usual suspects !
