Marantz PM-94
(1985 - 1989)
Marantz PM-94 Limited

(1987 - 1989)

Luxurious version of the regular PM-94 and ultimate version of the original PM-84 from 1983.

The PM-94 and PM-94 Limited differ somewhat very little: gold looks, wooden sideburns, a special compound added to the four feet for better vibration damping, better caps, phono stage componentry and an added top aluminium plate make the PM-94 Limited.

MOS-FET powered (K405/J115 ; triple push-pull per channel), the first 2x 35W are in full Class A, the Quarter-A scheme taking things under control for the rest of the power output - in other words: almost never. Unfortunately, many PM-94s burned themselves to death due to internal overheating for the PM-94 is not only an excellent integrated amplifier, it also is a full-size house-heating service all by itself.
It is said that only five hundred PM-94 Limited were made but I believe there were more of them finally produced - despite a consequent pricetag, both versions sold very well.

Part of my own private all-time best.

The images for this post come from the superb may 1987 japanese catalog which also displayed the CD-94, CDA-94, Sc 1000, Sm-700, Sc-11, Sm-11, BTL-1 and Mc 1000.

(ps. I also have the beautiful 1987 japanese catalog for the black PM-94 which I'll post separately at a later date)
