Marantz / Philips CD drives
PART #2

Here below are shown some of the versions which Philips produced throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.
There are naturally many other versions with minor differences...

Those who last forever, litterally, are the CDM-0, CDM-1 (all versions), CDM-3, the diecast CDM-4 v1 and the CDM-4MD ; the others aren't as solid...

Left row, top to bottom:
CDM-4 (v1, aka CDM-1mk2)
CDM-4/12
CDM-4/27

Right row, top to bottom:
CDM-1 (v2)
CDM-1 (v3)
CDM-4/19

The CDM-4 v1 was named CDM-1mk2 by Marantz Japan.

The CDM-4/19 was named CDM-4M by Marantz Japan ; it is the cheaper version of the diecast CDM-4MD.

The rare CDM-2 was a resin-cast version of the CDM-1 v3.

Above and below
Two of the CDM-1 versions: v3 (left) and v2 (right)
The mechanism and optical block are the same with only the boards changing. The v1 used flexicable receptacles which were more of the "custom" kind :) but didn't differ from the v2 otherwise.
The motor itself went from single-phase (V1 & v2) to triphase (v3).
Below
The original CDM-4 (aka CDM-1 mk2 in Japan) and the later CDM-4/27.
Below
The CDM-4/27 and its earlier and nearly identical CDM-4/12 version.
Left:
The CDM-4/19, named by Marantz Japan CDM-4M ; it is the resin-cast version of the CDM-4MD.
After this one (and this one included), the Philips drives became less reliable with the CDM-9 and 9Pro proving to be of the "short-life" kind.
