Marantz CD-15
(1992 - 1996)

Marantz & Philips big big big one, introduced to celebrate the CD format's first ten years anniversary, much as Sony's CDP-R10 and DAS-R10.
A semi-equivalent would be the Japan-only Philips LHH 700 which had counterparts by the European Marantz in the CD-10 (small) and CD-11LE (big).

Quite similar to the CD-16 with its CDM-4MD diecast aluminium swing-arm "everlast" drive, the CD-15 was ntroduced a year before the CD-16 and two years before the CD-16 SE.
The CD-15 really is a CD-16 with balanced outputs and even better chassis structure. Being the original, the CD-15 has regular HDAM modules like the CD-16 and unlike the CD-16SE.

All the rest is identical between the three models : diecast aluminium Philips CDM-4MD drive, digital-to-analogue section, diecast aluminium copper-plated chassis, SM-5803AP, SAA-7350, TDA-1547, double-differential output stage, regulated feeds for the DAC7, digital and audio sections etc - the block-diagram accessible below will show all of this very clearly.
Same weight, same dimensions, same specs, but different remote control and the XLR outputs are set at 3V max. and 150Ohm.

Sound-wise, well... only proper SACD really has an edge over the CD-15 : this is as natural as digital can be.
