Luxman SQ-38D
Luxman SQ-38Ds
(1964
- 1967 ; 58,500¥)
(1965
- 1968 ; 54,500¥)
Luxman leaflet for the 1998 Japanese market reissue :
"Released in 1964, the original SQ-38D became so popular that at the time it was synonymous with hi-fi
amps. 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes are used in the first and driver stages respectively. Output
tubes are 6BQ5 [6RA8 originally], while the power transformer is OY-14 type.
The number of inputs is increased to five to accomodate a greater
number of sources available today, but the functions and basic design
are the same as the original masterpiece."
The SQ-38Ds is a slightly later version which accomodated low-output MM catridges ; the backplate name remained the same, though.
The Luxman SQ-38D sold in enormous quantities in Japan and is therefore very easy to find. Still rather expensive, alas, at about 2000€, whether the original or the 1998 reissue.
Does anyone know who designed the SQ-38D
and its WZ-30 tuner companion ? |
