Luxman
RX-103
Luxman RX-102
(1982 - 1984)
From a rare series that boasted the ultimate
(and useless, really) evolution of Luxman's traditionally sculptured
design : the right side of the fascia does move forward at power
off so that the five knobs can't be moved from their set position,
and
backward again at power on so that the owner can regain control
over said knobs.
That was Servo Face - expensive, sometimes
mechanically problematic and really not a necessity in the end.
I believe the series to have been export only ; there were three
tape decks (KX-100, KX-101,
KX-102), one tuner (TX-101)
and one equalizer (GX-101) as well.
The tuner and EQ used the same chassis and did not sport the servo-face.
The RX-102 lost some functions and
power but remained basically the same component.
The
extremely good-looking backlit perspex buttons did find their way
into an even rarer series which seems to have been US only circa
1990 (MX-100, TX-100,
CX-100, the latter being a relooked
C-03).
The rest of the design, left side, borrows heavily from the contemporary
Alpine part of Luxman : black with little black buttons, as on the
K-05.
Inside...
still rather healthy but nothing to be compared to an L-100
or L-58A - lots of hectic cabling back and forth !
