Denon DP-100M
Denon DP-100

(1981 - 1985)

THE ultimate LP record player ! Pretty rare outside of Japan, though...
Dynamic Servo Tracer tonearm, composite materials, 90dB s/n ratio (!), 48kg on the balance and... 900,000¥ off the bank account.

DP-100 is the turntable, DP-100M is the turntable with the tonearm and its 2 wands ; the optional DK-1000 enclosure pushed the bill to 1,100,000¥... The contemporary ads showed the 100M along a cutting lathe, hinting that this was as good as the original, no less.

The production is anybody's guess but should be around 100 or 200 pieces. Denon in Germany still has a demo sample (!) and it bears a n°3 serial number... Regarding who built it for Denon, this so far remains a mystery. Part Victor of course but not entirely.

The images used for this post come from a 1982 Stereo Sound special. I have ads, too, but none of them are detailed as these.
