Denon DCD-1800
Denon DCD-1800R
(1983 > 1984 > 1986)

Denon's first howebrew consumer CD player - first of a long line of very successful and massively built players!
After the Hitachi rebadge (DCD-2000), Denon's first "real" player was the professional DN-3000F. The DCD-1800 used a 95% Denon drive, as can be seen here - the remaining 5% are represented by the laser pickup itself which came from Sharp. Still is a "swing" type which Denon would however abandon after a while for cheaper linear systems and (much later) Sony OEMs!

The later DCD-1800R version only added an IR remote control (RC-1800) and did away with the timer on/off and the open/close button placed on the lid itself. The drawer itself of the 1800R wasn't made of extruded aluminium slabs anymore - plain plastic. And it was black, too :(

The top image and drive detail come from an australian brochure - you can thank Roger Bownds for it! And Kjetil for the 1800R drawer update.
The other images come from various 1984 and 1985 japanese ads ; the germany-sourced images I have will make for an update :)
