Sharp DX-3
(1982 - 1983)

Full in-house development and extra-rare CD player which isn't that rare after all : Sharp was a major OEM provider for optical pickups and laser assemblies for many japanese manufacturers. There is some Sharp in your Aurex, in your Diatone, in your Denon, in your Kyocera !

Originally presented in silver dress, the DX-3 was finally offered with two of the later 1980s' design staples : blue and printed grids :)
The display works a bit like the that of the Pioneer PD-70 or Technics SL-P10 - able to display present tracks, programming and more.
Very well built inside : much tidier than a DA-1000 for instance and closer to a NEC CD-803. The single digital-to-analogue IC comes from Sharp while the output op'amps are two LM 833N. 7,5kg and measuring 33x14,8x23cm.
The DX-3, however, didn't sell much and wasn't rebadged by anyone either. Sharp made much more money selling pickups and dedicated ICs so it really didn't need to sell complete players !
