Hitachi DA-1000
(late 1982 - 1984)

The grandaddy of 'em all - the most prolific OEM provider of the 1st generation. Among its many clones, the DA-1000 could and still can be found under several brands and monikers:

Brandt DAD-001
Continental Edison DAD 9370
Denon DCD-2000
Dual CD 120
JVC XL-V1
Lo-D DAD-1000
Lo-d DAD-1000K

Nordmende ADS 2000
Pathé Marconi LA-10
Thomson AD100

Foreseeing the future rather clearly, Hitachi very quickly presented a 2nd model with an horizontal tray which gave way to quite a few clones as well... But using any of these vertical players is a treat and brings a little of those 1960s portable LP players that would "eat" your disc to play it - amusing and a little slow, indeed, but much less cold and technoid.
There are two versions of the DA-1000: the first had a blue "power-on" button (above), the later had it silver-ish (below).

An internal view showing how cramped it is inside a DA1000 can be found here and you surely can see some here, too.
